The map of AI video models in 2026

A year ago there were two or three serious names in AI video. Today there are a dozen frontier models and native synced audio is table stakes. Here’s the map at mid-2026.
The leaders
On independent rankings, ByteDance’s Seedance 2.0 and Alibaba’s models fight for the top. Seedance stands out in audio generation and now, with 2.5, in length and 4K.
Veo 3.1: broadcast quality
Google DeepMind’s Veo 3.1 targets broadcast quality: realistic physics, 48 kHz synced audio and strong prompt adherence. Its edge is lip-sync and film-like texture.
Kling 3.0: value and story
Kling 3.0 is the value champion (~$0.50/clip) and shines at multi-shot storytelling, up to 6 shots per run with automatic transitions. It also has the most generous free tier.
Sora 2 bows out
Sora 2 still delivers the most physically convincing motion, but OpenAI confirmed a two-stage shutdown: the app closed in April and the API sunsets on September 24, 2026.
The takeaway for brands
There’s no absolute “best”: there’s the best for each job. Picking the right model per piece is part of the craft, and it’s exactly what I do on every ArtiMindArt project. Got a spot in mind? Tell me.
